Funny story: we told our kids that Santa brings them three presents, that's it, and it's true. so I shouldn't have been surprised when I walked down stairs Christmas morning and saw Jack sitting with THREE opened presents around him. but I was. At least he followed directions...sort of. I just didn't expect that he would pick three all by himself without waking anyone else up. (Wish my brain worked quicker in the morning and that I had taken a photo). It was priceless. And just his luck-two of the gifts had been meant for him!
On boxing day we left for the cabin. I was looking forward to a quiet, relaxing week, but my mother-in-law, (I love you Sue, if you're reading), had different plans, plans to keep us all busy! (I think she's getting used to having 6 grandsons)! Luckily I was able to do both.
We decided to get to know Eureka a little more and ventured out to their movie theatre. It was cute and cheap and smelled like pine. We saw Frozen.
We also spent a day in Kallispell shopping for a kid's ATV, we had fun looking at all the options, but haven't come home with anything yet.
We also decided to try some 10 pin bowling. We had low expectations, but it was actually really nice and kinda perfect. The kids had a hard time with the heavier balls, and no one broke 100, but we had a great time!
Last but not least, we took the kids to Whitefish for some downhill skiing. If you're still reading this long recap of Christmas, my advice is DON'T DO IT! Unless your kids ask you to take them, they are probably not ready. It was seriously a nightmare. I had boys crying over their boots, I had boys crying about ski rentals, I had boys crying about daycare (which was a last resort after the first two). In the end we made it to the lunchroom and fed our whiny boys. After that we convinced them to come to the bunny hill and try it out. At first it wasn't going well, but then we tried to make if fun and I had the boys ski between my skis. I went up the magic carpet 20 times that day, and still don't have "skiers" - thankfully the weather was great and I had my in-laws and hubby there to keep me sane!
And in between all the activities, I was able to read the whole MATCHED series by Ally Condie. She is a fantastic writer and although I didn't love the story line, (don't worry it's still good) I would definitely read the series, if you haven't already.
2014 GOALS
- enjoy Christmas next year (make Christ the centre this time)
- complete some diy projects (bunk beds for the boys, refinish dining room table)
- finish writing my book (long standing joke with Cory that it will never be completed and on my goal list next year, I won't deny that he might be right!
- daily scripture study
- spend more time playing with the kids
