CANCER

Earlier in December Cory's grandfather died of cancer at the age of 82. Before he passed away, he stopped eating and then finally went in to the ER. After some tests, doctors discovered cancer in his liver, stomach, and lungs. Originally the family thought he would make it past Christmas, but unfortunately he passed away on November 25, 2010. I thought I should post something in his honour. I only met him once, so I don't know him well, but Cory's family says he was an honourable man with good morals and work ethic. Before passing he shared with his children that he was ready to die because he had lived a good life. I hope I can say the same thing when my time comes. Here is a somewhat recent picture.

Just last week my young women's leader Christy Humphreys passed away of cancer. I feel like I've been hearing that word a lot lately. I call it the "C" word now. She was a wonderful leader and I definitely remember as a really fun, "cool" leader who also set a spiritual example for me to follow. She was only 41-years-old and I am so sad that her life is over, but as Cory tells me...."She's with people she loves and who love her." I am so grateful for temples and the sealing ordinance. It's so nice to know that this life is not the end. They read the following poem at her funeral. What a beautful way to view life.

The Weaver
My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me;
I cannot choose the colors
He worketh steadily.
Ofttimes He weaveth sorrow
And I in foolish pride,
Forget that He seeth the upper,
And I the under side.
Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver’s skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

He knows, He loves, He cares,
Nothing this truth can dim.
He gives His very best to those
Who leave the choice with Him
